Tom’s
Ready was bred in Pennsylvania by Blackstone Farm LLC. As a
two year old he showed talent. At three he won the Woody
Stephens Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park for owners G M B Racing
and trainer Dallas Stewart, with Joel Rosario up, and the Ack
Ack Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs, ridden by Brian Hernandez,
Jr. Tom’s Ready then competed in the 2016 Kentucky
Derby. At four, he took the Leemat Stakes at Presque Isle,
with Hernandez, and the Bold Ruler Handicap (G3) at Belmont,
ridden by Joel Rosario. In addition, he ran second or third in
five other graded stakes during his career for total earnings
of 1,036,267. In 21 starts, most of them stakes, he had 5
wins, 4 seconds and 3 thirds. Tom’s Ready arrived at Old
Friends in November, 2020. We thank Gayle Benson of G M B
Racing for enabling his retirement with us.

many of you may know, racing journalist Acacia Courtney has
graciously modeled the Derby-style hats on the auction block
in our “Hats off to the Horses” series. And we
are so grateful to her. But this month, we thought, who
better to impart the true spirit of Old Friends and the
distinct personalities of our beloved retirees than the
hard-working ladies who care for them every day. So this
month’s hat is dedicated to Tom's Ready and is
showcased by assistant farm manager, Marisa Miller who has
just taken over management of our Ashton Grove Senior Living
facility, where 14 of our horses share life with the senior
residents there.”
