How do I measure my head size for
custom ladies' hats?
Measuring head size
is very easy to do. Your head size is the measurement, in inches,
of the place where your hat will rest when you place it upon your
head; bearing in mind that it is the widest circumference of your
head that you are measuring.
Tip: You may
at this point want to run and stand in front of a mirror or get
someone to assist you!
To determine your own
head size, simply take a cloth tape measure and beginning at the
center of your forehead, across the top of your first ear, around
to the back/base of your head, across your second ear, and back
to the center of your forehead. If you prefer to have your hats
come down lower on your head, or for that matter higher, simply
adjust the placement of the tape for a more accurate head size.
Most women measure anywhere from 21-25 inches. Give or take a
Tip: Do not
pull the tape too tightly, it should be a fairly “relaxed”
measurement so that the hat will fit you comfortably.
Tip: If you
don't have a cloth measuring tape, simply take a piece of string
or twine, measure your head size in the same way as described
above, and then lay this against a hard ruler to determine your
measurement in inches! (This is a recent tip from a lovely lady
who recently ordered her chapeau for Derby day!)
news with a MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS® chapeau is the "Silver
Lining" feature. Each custom made hat at maggiemae.com
(except for selected hats from the Unique Boutique Hat Sale) is
created with an elasticized ribbon insert which can easily be
adjusted to make your hat fit you well. So when you measure your
head, don't worry if your measurement is a bit off. The "Silver
Lining" insert will make up the difference. I created this
wondrous feature when I started my business as a wholesale
milliner to maximize the chances of my hats fitting a greater
number of women. Since then, I have continued to use the "Silver
Lining" because so many of my customers have told me how
wonderful it is to be able to adjust the size of their hats
whenever they wish. And I don't know about you, but depending on
what sort of "hair day" it is or how hard the wind is
blowing, I very often need to adjust the size of my hats myself
to fit me just the way I want them to. And a good fit, is
