"Roxy"
is a very special couture hat created to honor reining Champion,
Roxy; "Foxy Roxy" to those who know her well. Her real
name is Whizards Baby Doll. A two-time winner of All-American
Quarter Horse Championships and two reserve championships, Roxy
has also won the NRHA Futurity Freestyle Championship and the
Tulsa Reining Classic twice, among others. Both Roxy and her
partner, Stacy, appeared on the Ellen Degeneres Show in March of
2008, and Roxy and Stacy have been invited to be part of the
Opening Ceremonies at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games

A knockout chapeau
was required to honor this
foxy Lady. Roxy is a
striking Quarter Horse mare, all black except for a white star and
a small white marking on her hind leg. In keeping with her
conformation, the body of the hat was created in rich black
dupioni silk with an asymmetrical upturned brim, cocked to one
side, for a bit of added attitude.
The
shape of the brim was designed to reflect the many angles created
by Roxy as she and Stacy perform their routine of circles, spins,
and stops in reining competition.
Many layers
of black tulle sprays
were set behind the upturned brim, front to back, to symbolize
Roxy's mane and tail as she performs her electrifying spins during
competition. Because Roxy is ridden without bridle or saddle, the
full beauty of her rich, black mane and tail can be seen as she
spins around and around... If you have never seen her in reining
competition, you are in for a real treat! See Roxy and Stacy

Inside sources told us
that Foxy has one special favorite treat that she simply adores:
peppermints! To create a hat that Roxy herself would love, a
single red and white "peppermint" rose curl was created
and set into a stunning multi-layered red and black dupioni silk
rosette. Wisps of black tulle and red buttons delicately accent
the rose curl. Finally, red and white "peppermint"
buttons, created from several layers of red and white flat
buttons, adorn the back of the hat to finish the peppermint theme.

Long
slender black silk "feathers", created from black
silk organza, were set behind the rosette on the upturned
brim to add one more touch of foxy elegance to the trim
design.

A
very special thank you to Roxy for being such a wonderful
model for this hat, and to Stacy for allowing us to create
this hat to honor such a foxy gal! We'll be cheering on both
of these amazing athletes when they perform at the Opening
Ceremonies of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equesterian Games
at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY this fall!
