Hats Off to the Horses: The Road to the Derby
A Unique Online Charity Hat Auction Benefiting Old Friends Equine

From November 2009 through April 2010, MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS^® and Old Friends teamed up for an unparalleled online Derby hat auction, "Hats Off to the Horses: The Road to the Derby". This unique Derby hat auction began November 1st and featured six months of one-of-a-kind couture Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS^® to benefit Old Friends. Each month, one custom hat was created to honor one of the retirees of Old Friends. The auction series was a great success, and we wanted to offer a page where visitors could come and enjoy all of the hats and the horses of Old Friends who inspired them!

AUCTION #1 - CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. Bruce Dutton of Alabama, the winner of our first Derby auction hat, the "Black Tie Affair", that was up for bid in November. This fabulous one-of-a-kind Derby hat was purchased for the top bid price of $706.35. We thank Bruce for his contribution to the horses at Old Friends! AUCTION #2 - CONGRATULATIONS to Helen Shannon of Chicago, the winner of our second Derby auction hat, the "Commentator", that was up for bid in December. This fabulous one-of-a-kind Derby hat was purchased for the top bid price of $770.00. We thank Helen for her contribution to the horses at Old Friends! Throughout this auction seriesm visitors to maggiemae.com were invited to go to the Old Friends website at www.oldfriendsequine.org and click on the link provided after the first of each month. Winners were announced each month (unless they prefer to remain anonymous) and on the first day of the following month a new one-of-a-kind millinery creation placed up for bid to celebrate another resident of Old Friends.
