Fortunate Prospect photos by Matt Woolley - www.equisportphotos.com Beth Shannon of Old Friends, on Fortunate Prospect - “The main impression he gives is of beautifully harmonious conformation. His physical beauty is in his proportions. His other beauty is calm wisdom.” Valerine Mulgrave of the Old Friends Blog writes, “Fortunate Prospect just exudes class. He is like an old southern gentleman--kind, gentle and with a twinkle in his eye.”
Fortunate Prospect One of the truly great stallions in Florida's breeding history Courtesy of Old Friends The stallion Fortunate Prospect may be the first Old Friends retiree with more credentials as a stallion than a racehorse. The Florida-bred has a respectable track record (nine stakes wins, including the the San Vicente at Santa Anita at the age of 3 and the Equus Handicap at Garden State in course record time the following year), but it’s his family tree that has grown with distinction. Considered one of the truly great stallions in Florida breeding history, Fortunate Prospect sired 571 winners, 27 of them stakes victors. His 683 runners—including top filly Fortunate Card and chief earner Suave Prospect—have earned over $38 million on the track. The stallion also gained recognition over the years as a top broodmare sire. His daughter Successful Dancer is the dam of multiple stakes winner Successful Appeal, who now stands at Walmac Farm in Kentucky. Fortunate Prospect stood at Farnsworth Farm near Morristown, Florida for nearly two decades before he was pensioned from the breeding shed in 2005 at the age of 24. He was donated to Old Friends when owner Michael Sherman liquidated his farm in early 2005 and needed a new home for his long-term resident. Needless to say, we feel very fortunate to have him. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To place a bid on the “Fortunate Prospect” auction hat or to learn more about Old Friends at Dream Chase Farm, please visit the Old Friends website to access the eBay link or call them at 502-863-1775.
