conjunction with Thoroughbred Charities of America and Foxwoods
Resort Casino teamed up for a very special hat auction in May
2008.
This one-of-a-kind couture Derby hat, "A Dozen Roses for
Eight Belles", was created especially for the auction, and
all proceeds were donated to the Eight Belles Memorial Fund.

Dozen Roses for Eight Belles”

This
one-of-a-kind millinery design, inspired by the amazing 2008
Kentucky Derby runner up, Eight Belles, was created in a rich
red dupioni silk in the signature “Dozen Roses”
style by MAGGIE
MAE DESIGNS®.
One dozen delicate red silk organza and chiffon rose curls were
hand-rolled, hand-stitched, and placed along the crown with
herb green taffeta fabric leaves set behind them to fill out
the 5-inch brim. A red satin sash surrounded the crown and a
medium size bow adorned the back of the hat. Wispy re tulle
sprays accented the roses to create a soft, elegant chapeau to
honor a grand filly named Eight Belles.
